Raise a Sail and Help Find a Cure
The Leukemia Cup Regatta is more than boats and crews racing—it’s over 17,600 sailors across the United States who have elevated their competition to a whole new level. They race to win while helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) achieve its mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
The funds they raise support leading-edge cancer research and provide critical services to patients and their families. Sailors race in the name of a patient hero from their community who has a blood cancer.
Throughout the country, Leukemia Cup Regattas have raised more than $23 million to support LLS’s mission.
THE NEED IS CRITICAL:
• Every five minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma; every 10 minutes, someone dies from these cancers.
• Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.
• Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma is the sixth most common cancer in the United States.
• The overall five-year survival for myeloma is just 34 percent.
WHEN YOU RACE IN A LLS REGATTA, PATIENTS ARE THE WINNERS!
LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patients services.
LLS:
• Has funded more than $550 million in leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma research since its founding in 1949.
• Provides patients, their caregivers and healthcare professionals with information and support services by phone, online, and in person through our 68 chapters in the United States and Canada.
• Advocates for legislation to increase funding for blood cancer research and programs that improve the quality of cancer care.
