Racing at the American Yacht Club
The long history of sailing events continues
Racing has been a tradition at the American Yacht Club since its inception over 100 years ago. Today sailors continue that tradition by participating in races both local and far away.
The AYC each year hosts the Leukemia Cup Regatta in memory of Brian Hughes and this year will be no different. With both Lightnings and Laser fleets participating, we expect a huge turnout and a terrific event for everyone. Please visit the AYC Leukemia Cup Regatta page for more details.
The American Yacht Club is host to 3 active racing fleets. All races hosted by the AYC are open to anyone wishing to participate, including members of other clubs or the public at large.
The three fleets are:
Lasers
A single-person boat sailed competitively all over the world. These boats have one sail and are very light and fast while being very simple to handle.
Lightning
A 3-person family day-sailor that is also raced competitively all over the world. These boats can be as simple or technically challenging as you desire.
PHRF
An open class, generally for 20'+ boats that are not part of an active one-design fleet. Boats are rated based on a formula and scored depending on their time to complete the course.
