Newburyport AYC Summer Sailing Program for Kids
Please read the descriptions carefully. Please note that the day classes are for Ages 10 to 18.
Basic Sailing Instruction: Beginners will have a safe, fun sailing experience while learning the basic of sailing theory and skills. Novice and younger sailors will learn the basics of rigging, boat handling and safety.
Intermediate Instruction: Students will improve on their basic skills and build confidence on the water. Instructors will keep students challenged while still focusing on fun and safety on the water. Students will become more independent sailors.
Instuction levels are combined, however, instructors will assess students' experience and group them with others with like skills and provide all with a challenging program. Many students will spend a few years in this level honing their skills to prepare for more complex sailing.
Advance Racing Instruction: Students with strong prior experience will develop strong recreational and advanced sailing skills. Instruction will focus on refining techniques for performance and competitive sailing to one design racing. Students should have prior boating knowledge and sailing skills. Recommendation from staff/instructor is required for enrollment.
Student Information: Students are asked to dress appropriately for the conditions of the day, and wear closed-toe non-skid shoes that may get wet. Bring sun glasses, croakies to hold on glasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat and clip to hold it on and a rain jacket. To insure the safety of the children, please be advised that we require that all students be picked up and dropped off no more than 15 minutes from the start or finish of the classes.
There will be a mandatory parents meeting at the start of class for each session. This 15-minute meeting will familiarize the parents and/or guardians with the syllabus of the course, rules for student's behavior, and general information sharing.
